Soot Deposits

The ash deposit on heating sufaces are called soot deposit.

Fused slag deposit are formed on furnace wall and other surfaces exposed to predominantly radiant heat.

High temperature bonded deposit occurs on convection mainly covective superheaters and reheaters.

Low temperature deposits in the temperature zones such as the economisers and air heaters is associated with condensation of aacid or water vapour on cooled surfaces.

Shoot Blowers-Wall Deslaggers long retractactable swivel blowers.

In Indian boiler usually Steam is used as blowing medium which strikes the soot deposits and dislodges it from heating surfaces.

Soot Blowers are made according to the surface they have to clean.Soot blowers who dislodges soot from water wall are called wall blowers or deslaggers.

for removing soot from superheaters, reheaters and economisers soot blowers used are called long retracts and half retracts.Swivel blowers used for rotary air preheaters.

Effect of Soot Deposits on the Heat Recovery surfaces of Boilers.

As the deposits are poor conductor of heat so heat transfer may reduce hence reducing in boiler efficiency.

blockage of flue gas path thereby increasing draught losses so high ID fan power is required.

Soot deposit on the tube may lead to corrosion.

Tubes sections may fall due to increased weight due to accumulation of deposits.
